The Kitchen Shop has been relocated as part of the Victorian Kitchen restoration, and now stocks an exciting new product which offers visitors a chance to replicate part of Palace House at home…
KITCHEN SHOP RELOCATED
To make way for the restoration of the Victorian kitchen the existing kitchen shop has been relocated to the scullery area.
Far from the mops and dirty rags you would expect to find in the scullery, the shop today glitters with silverware, china sets and yummy homemade preserves. The old range has been left in situ and is now the beautiful backdrop for Lord Montagu’s cook to display her homemade produce.

TAKE A PIECE OF PALACE HOUSE HOME
Something special can now be found in the kitchen shop: a chance to take a piece of Palace House home…
Rachel Wyatt from ‘The Old Piping Bag’ has created unique icing moulds made from casts she took from furniture around Palace House. The moulds can be used with different mediums such as wax, polymer clay, plaster, resin, chocolate or icing to make your own stately candles, plaques and cakes!
Designs include details taken from a 17th century draw-leaf table, a 19th century carved oak firescreen and a bird design taken from a large carved armoire.

Rachel has also created a decorative garden plaque, cast from a 17th century oak blanket chest in the Portrait Gallery, which depicts a pagan fertility symbol thought to ward off evil spirits. What’s so lovely about this piece is that Rachel has made a true copy of the original design, so the ageing of the wood of on the blanket chest also appears on the plaque.
Fear not car lovers… Rachel has also designed moulds of mechanics tools for driving themed decorations!
